ALABAMA

The University of Alabama – Birmingham - Summer in Biomedical Sciences Program (SIBS) is an 8 week paid internship program for SOPH and JRS.  Deadline February 11, 2022

CALIFORNIA

Stanford Center for Asian Health Research and Education (CARE) - has a 9 week summer program in Data Science and Vulnerable Populations for undergraduate and graduate students, with a focus in Asian Health. Deadline: January 10, 2022

UC Berkeley List of Free Clinics and Non-Profits in Bay Area

UCLA Premedical Enrichment Program (PREP) is a summer program supporting students from educationally or economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Includes MCAT prep. Deadline: Feb 28, 2022.

USC has a great list of opportunities in the Los Angeles area.

Coach Art Volunteer to teach art or a sport to children with chronic illness. Check out this amazing program in California.  

The University of San Diego maintains a list of volunteer opportunities in San Diego. Although some opportunities are only for University of San Diego students, several are open to anyone. Medical, dental, pharmacy, optometry, veterinary options available. 

Maternal Child Health Careers/Research Initiatives for Student Enhancement - Undergraduate Program (MCHC/RISE-UP) in cooperation with the CDC offers 3+ summer programs. This summer program focuses on public health and on elimination of health disparities and promotion of health equity. Students select one of the three partner institutions: Kennedy Krieger Institute/Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, University of South Dakota/Sanford School of Medicine Center for Disabilities in Sioux Falls, SD or University of California in Davis, CA. $3500 stipend awarded to all students. Deadline: January 31, 2022. 

COLORADO

University of Colorado, Costa Rica Course on Wilderness Medicine & Global Health. UC offers courses during the winter (December) and summer breaks. UC also offers a Wilderness & Emergency Medicine Course in Colorado too.

CONNECTICUT

Hole in the Wall Gang Camp founded by Paul Newman has a state of the art camp in Ashford, CT serving seriously ill children. 

St. Vincent Medical Center Emergency Room Research Associate Program in Bridgeport, CT. They offer programs during three semesters (fall, spring summer). This is a great option for gap year students.  

DC

Georgetown University School of Medicine offers a one and three week medical summer program along with a one week nursing program and a two week biotech summer program for high school premeds. 

ILLINOIS

OSF Health Care Internships in Peoria, IL. 

The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine offers a variety of 6 & 8 week clinical and research summer programs for high school and college students from disadvantaged backgrounds and/or who represent groups that are known to be underrepresented in health related sciences and medicine. Some programs are residential while others are day only. Deadline January 8, 2021.

Formerly the Continuing Umbrella of Research Experience (CURE) program: Chicago EYES (Educators and Youth Enjoy Science) on Cancer “is a cancer research training program for high school and college students (FY and SOPH) interested in careers in biomedicine. Priority is given to applicants traditionally underrepresented in biomedicine.” Deadline; January 17, 2022

Chicago Cancer Health Equity Collaborative (ChicagoCHEC) is a National Cancer Institute led by the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University, Northeastern Illinois University and the University of Illinois at Chicago.“The ChicagoCHEC Fellows program is a comprehensive learning experience for undergraduate and postbaccalaureate students at Northeastern Illinois University, University of Illinois at Chicago, Northwestern University, the City Colleges of Chicago, and other Community/ Junior Colleges in the Chicago metropolitan area who are planning to apply to graduate or medical school. This program is focused on the development of academic, technical, and professional skills in preparation for careers in social, behavioral, and biomedical research and in healthcare. ChicagoCHEC Fellows will spend the summer in seminars and research rotations learning from leading researchers. Following the summer intensive program, ChicagoCHEC Fellows will have the option to be matched with a research mentor and research project (depending on mentor and project availability) during the academic year.” Deadline: February 28, 2022

MAINE

Undergraduate Healthcare Leadership Internship (UHLI) Program through the Daniel Hanley Center for Health Leadership offers 16 paid summer internships throughout Maine. As of January 4, 2022, no deadline listed on website so check back frequently.

MARYLAND

Johns Hopkins Pre-professional Advising Office maintains a great deal of resources and references for their students and many are available to you on their website. Skip down to the section labeled Additional Research Opportunities. Honestly the links go on and on so don't miss this great resource. 

Summer Institute in Anatomy at Johns Hopkins University. This 4 week course for undergraduates includes demonstrations using human cadavers.

MASSACHUSETTS

Boston Leadership Institute hosts one and three week summer research opportunities for high school students interested in STEM fields. The program is located in the Boston area and students can either be a day student or they offer residential options in dormitories. Summer 2022 application is available. Rolling deadline.

Boston University Office of Pre-Professional Advising maintains a list of summer opportunities by state and local in Boston. 

3 Orthopedic Internships Available: Orthopedic Trauma Undergraduate Summer Internship, Orthopedic Internship and Women’s Sports Medicine Internship at Mass General Hospital: Boston MA Interns are exposed to the medical setting through orthopedic research and observation. Deadline February 11, 2022. 

Tufts University, Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University is now accepting applications for the 2022 Adventures in Veterinary Medicine (AVM) program.  This program is designed for middle school, high school and college students who are interested in learning more about veterinary medicine. 

University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) Summer Undergraduate Research Opportunity.  This non-credit, ten-week, structured research experience is sponsored by UMMS Office of Outreach Programs. Deadline March 1, 2022.

NEW JERSEY

Overlook Summer Internship Program (OSIP) A hospital based summer program for premeds interesting in applying to medical school located in NJ. Deadline January 31, 2022.

Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Summer Clinical Internship Program. This 6 week program seeks to recruit juniors, seniors and postbac students. Website states to check back in February 2022 for the 2022 summer offerings and deadlines.

NEW YORK

Cohen Children's Medical Center Volunteer Opportunities in NY. If you are planning to be in NY this summer, consider volunteering at Cohen. Jobs include Atrium Ambassadors, Pediatric Emergency Department, Surgical waiting area, comfort cart, Reach out and Read, Musical Hands and Hearts plus more. Summer and year round volunteers.

DENTISTRY

Dentistry: University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, Summer Enrichment Program welcomes applications for their 2019 summer program.  This program primarily seeks to enroll undergraduates in their junior or senior year who are underrepresented minorities (URM) and/or disadvantaged students who wish to gain admission to dental school. They offer free housing and DAT prep as well as a stipend to cover food and transportation. To learn more specifics, visit their student video on YouTube link. Deadline February 15, 2022.
